Level Measurement
There are many technologies that can be used to measure level in a tank. Selecting the correct means to measure liquid level can be quite difficult depending on the application. Chemical compatibility, coating, foaming, bubbles, fumes, temperature, turbulence, and conductivity are just a few of the variables that can wreak havoc with measurement.
We can provide a complete variety of level technologies to meet even the most demanding environments. We have listed a selection guide for the continuous and point level technologies, as well as ordering information for each type.
Point level detection
Point technologies are ideal for use as alarms, opening valves, and starting and stopping pumps at a given level. The items shown below are of a Polypropylene construction to meet the widest variety of applications. Also available are switches constructed of various metals, and in XP or intrinsically safe models.
Available types of Point Level Switches
Buoyancy (float): These switches are very inexpensive, and ideal for clean liquids. Dirty liquids or chemical that can coat will prevent the float from moving and foul the probe.
Capacitance (non intrusive): For highly aggressive chemicals, this type of switch can be installed without adding fittings to the tank or coming into contact with the solution. The sensor is limited to use on plastic and FRP tanks, and on solutions that are conductive, and do not coat the tank walls.
Ultrasonic: Gap style ultrasonic switches are fantastic for most applications. These switches do not have any moving parts, and have problems only with bubbles or foaming liquids.
Tuning Fork: These switches cover the widest variety of applications.

Left:
Dual point switch assembly (Buoyancy type) on a Smart Track with controller head.
Right:
A single point switch assembly (Ultrasonic type) with top mounted controller and "Strobe-Alert".
Both assemblies are designed for top entry into a tank or a sump. |

Sensors have 1A relay outputs standard. Please add $15 per foot for assembly length.
Non-Intrusive capacitance sensors are $185.00 per switch including the tank mount bracket; ask for Part number LP50-6005.
Continuous Level Measurement
Continuous level measurement is used for inventory management, level logging, process control, and monitoring. These transmitters will provide a 4-20 mA output proportional to the tank level. That signal can be brought into a panel meter for viewing, a controller, or a PLC.
Available Types of Continuous Level Measurement
Ultrasonic: These transmitters mount through the top of a tank, and provide non-contact measurement for most types of non-foaming liquids.

Ultrasonic Level Sensors
|
Radar: Guided wave radar transmitters, sometimes also called "radar on a rope," project a microwave signal down the cable to detect the level of the tank. This technology has the advantage of being impervious to fumes, dust, foam, coating, and pressure changes. |
 Radar Level Sensors |
Hydrostatic: Hydrostatic liquid measurement uses a submersible pressure transmitter, and is an ideal low cost method for tanks or sumps with coating or foaming liquids. The transducer is extended into the tank by a cable making it easy to install and to maintain.
Panner also offers other continuous types of level measurement such as capacitance, pressure (hydrostatic), and float. Please contact us for pricing, application assistance, or more detailed specifications on these or any of our other products at 800-811-3797. | Hydrostatic level transmitter |

Display and Control Panels: All of the continuous transmitters have a 4-20 mA output. We can take that signal and provide a digital panel mounted display or controller to complete your level system.
The level readings can be shown in gallons, liters, inches, 0-100%, or even in pounds. The displays are provided mounted complete in a corrosion resistant Fiberglass enclosure.
