Magnetic Flow Meter (Insertion & Full Bore)
A magnetic flow meter measures the velocity of flow in a pipe by detecting the change in a magnetic field that is generated within the liquid flow. As with the paddlewheel flow sensor, this velocity output is later changed to a flow value within a receiving instrument.
The advantage to using a magnetic style of flow meter is that it has no moving parts within the liquid flow. Therefore, magnetic flow meters are commonly applied in applications involving dirty or solids-laden fluids. The insertion magmeter inserts through a fitting into the pipe. A "full-bore" magmeter is shaped like the pipe itself and fits into the pipe as a wafer between flanges or bolted within flanges.
Insertion style magnetic flow sensors:
Signet 2551 Insertion Magnetic Flowmeter
This sensor inserts through the standard Signet insertion fitting. Signet Fittings It is available with or without a local display and relays and fits pipes up to 12' in diameter.
Signet 2552 Insertion Magnetic Flowmeter
This sensor inserts through the standard 1 1/4" NPT half couplings on the pipe. It fits pipes up to 48' in diameter. May be hot-tapped.
The output signals from both of these sensors can be sent to all the standard Signet monitors and transmitters shown in the paddlewheel flow sensor section.
Full-Bore magnetic flow sensors:
Siemens Mag 3100 magnetic flow sensor
This flanged magmeter fits pipes up to 16" in diameter. The carbon steel body with neoprene or PTFE liner makes it a good fit for general industrial applications.
Siemens Mag 5100W magnetic flow sensor
This flanged magmeter is designed specially for water and wastewater applications. Fits pipes up to 30" in diameter. Carbon steel body with nitrile rubber liner.
Siemens Mag 1100 magnetic flow sensor
This magmeter is designed especially for food, beverage or pharmaceutical applications. It is available as a flangeless wafer design or with sanitary tri-clamp connections. Fits pipes up to 4" in diameter.
The electronics package for Siemens magmeters is sold separately. The Mag 5000 is the standard transmitter electronics. It may be purchased as an integral unit or panel mount. With or without display.
